Find out why the real Paris can often be found off the beaten track – my insider tip? Just let yourself drift and lose yourself.
1.A discovery walk through the streets:
Simply stroll through the streets, take a deep breath of the fragrant croissant air and enjoy the real Parisian flair. Let yourself be seduced by the small cafés and boutiques and discover the hidden corners that are often overlooked in travel guides.
2. Evening visit to the Moulin Rouge:
Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Moulin Rouge in the evening – a show that made a lasting impression on me. It may cost 200 euros, but it’s really worth it. Put on something chic, feel like a Parisian stage star and let yourself be enchanted by the fascinating world of the Moulin Rouge.
3. Cruise on the Seine with jazz music:
Book a boat trip on the Seine – there are numerous offers, but my personal favourite is the tour with jazz music. Relax on the river, admire the city’s illuminated landmarks and let the sounds of jazz transport you to a romantic Parisian atmosphere.
4. The Lafayette rooftop terrace
If you don’t fancy queuing for hours at the Eiffel Tower, then head to the Lafayette rooftop terrace! A breathtaking view of the whole of Paris awaits you here. Grab a café au lait and let the city of love lie at your feet.
5. Montmartre – No longer an insider tip, but still beautiful:
Montmartre may no longer be an insider tip, but the charm of this neighbourhood is still unique. The square is buzzing with life, with numerous artists, caricaturists and painters bustling along the streets. Be inspired by the various works of art or perhaps even paint your own portrait. The artists on the square all have an official licence, so don’t worry about illegal businesses. The numerous restaurants and cafés around the square offer you a perfect view of the hustle and bustle.
6. Atelier des Lumières – A light show of art:
The fascinating Atelier des Lumières is located in the Saint-Ambroise district. Here, famous paintings and other art forms are staged in an impressive way. The focus is on light, which immerses the exhibitions in new perspectives. The creative use of music draws visitors into an immersive experience that makes them forget the world for a moment.
A visit to the Atelier des Lumières offers a refreshing alternative to the traditional museums and galleries of Paris. It is less conventional and promises more variety. The love of art is palpable here.
7. Le Marché des Enfants Rouges – Culinary diversity in the oldest market in Paris:
Hidden behind an inconspicuous green metal gate is Le Marché des Enfants Rouges – the oldest covered market in Paris, built in 1615. Named after a 17th century orphanage, the name translates as “market of the red children”, alluding to the children’s red uniforms.
The market halls form a small labyrinth with around 20 stalls offering dishes from all over the world. The speciality: Here you can socialise with locals and eat together. The atmosphere is wonderfully authentic and genuine – we particularly recommend the Japanese stall with its delicious bento boxes!
